The UC Arts-based research project “Into the Deep: Analysing the Actors and Controversies Driving the Adoption of the World’s First Deep Sea Mining Governance” (Marsden 22-UOC-059) is seeking applications for a funded PhD position with the project. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team from the Department of Political Science and International Relations (POLS) and the Macmillan Brown Centre for Pacific Studies – University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

You will work under the direct supervision of the team leader, Associate Professor Pascale Hatcher and you will be an integral part of the research team: contributing to the collection and the analysis of data, dissemination of the research results and providing technical and administrative support for the project.

The project leader, Associate Professor Pascale Hatcher, said:

“We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal, intercultural, research, and organisational skills, as well as experience in doing research in extractive industries in the Global South. Specific expertise in the Pacific Island Countries and mining is an asset. In addition, we are interested in someone who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team and is passionate about social justice issues around mining and development.”
