New Open-Access Article: Is everything new old again?

We’re pleased to share that Catherine Coumans’ new article, “Is everything new old again? Deep seabed mining governance and environmental management revisited through the lens of terrestrial mining,” is now published online as part of our forthcoming special issue with The Extractive Industries and Society. In this important contribution, Coumans examines how governance models, environmental management practices, and legal frameworks from terrestrial mining are being transferred into the emerging deep-sea mining sector. The article argues that many of the same industry-aligned practices and governance failures that have shaped terrestrial extractivism risk being reproduced in the deep ocean, despite the profound ecological uncertainties and unprecedented environmental risks associated with DSM.
